This plaid vintage a-line skirt is the perfect example of how you can take advantage of the fashion lifecycle of trends when shopping sustainably. I found this skirt buried in a thrift store in Santa Monica. Although the fabric and buttons are in perfect condition, the worn label leads me to believe that it’s straight from 1992. To my personal delight, nineties style has recently come back in a major way. Instead of buying a skirt from a fast-fashion brand that was inspired by the nineties, I chose to buy the real thing. This not only saved on the energy and resources that would have been used to create a new skirt, but I can also stay on-trend in a more unique and genuine way. I paired it with a long-sleeve top and sneakers in order to off-set the short hemline for a day of shopping in Silverlake.
