If there’s one item of clothing that I never skimp on, it’s swimwear. Growing up in Hawaii, I cultivated a love of swimwear early on, specifically at age 5 with my purple polka-dot cut-out one-piece (so on-trend). I knew that stepping into that suit meant I got to get my mermaid on in the aquamarine Hawaiian waters and crystal clear tide pools. As I grew older, I realized the importance of a quality bikini, since living in the warm climate allowed me to use it as year-round staple.
Now that I live in Southern California, I usually invest in just one new designer bikini a year, only adding to my arsenal if the fit and fabric are absolutely perfect. Although I do consider this type of highly selective consumption somewhat sustainable, I was thrilled when Eco Swim by Aqua Green reached out to me. Eco Swim by Aqua Green uses recycled nylons and other eco-friendly materials to create their suits, which are all made in America. Their motto is “reducing your carbon footprint in the sand”, and they’re also committed to beach and river cleanups. What an amazing company!
I wore their Layered Ruffle Bandeau One-piece and Hooded Stitching Cover-up for my vacation to Rosarito, Mexico. I’m usually a bikini kind of girl, but have been appreciating the popularity of one-pieces lately and fell in love with this one as soon as I saw it. The cut is oh-so flattering and the printed ruffles are like a breath of fresh air.
Our cliff-side Airbnb had the most incredible views of the ocean, and included steps that lead down to a natural salt water pool. I paired the one-piece with a wide-brimmed hat and a handmade straw bag that I picked up at the local market to explore the water.
After reading about how harmful the chemicals found in sunscreen can be (EWG article here), this summer I’ve been protecting my skin and lips with the chemical free Juice Beauty SPF 30 Sport Sunscreen and Lip Trio SPF 8 Lip Moisturizers. I’m happy to say that the sunscreen has consistently prevented my skin from burning, and I can even use it on my face without it clogging my pores! The lip moisturizers are also a lifesaver when it comes to keeping my lips from getting too dry.
