Over the last few years, I have been perfecting the most effective yet natural nighttime skincare routine to combat my skin issues: congestion and acne marks. If you have similar skin problems, then the following routine (or parts of it) may really help you too!
MY SKIN TYPE
I have sensitive skin that gets irritated easily and I use to suffer from hormonal breakouts (on my chin and jaw) before I started taking a hormonal birth control pill. This has really helped keep my breakouts at bay, but I deal with light acne marks and scars from the pre-BC days.
I tend to get congested skin, or clogged pores, on my cheeks in the form of tiny, red bumps. I’ve read that this can be caused by air pollution, especially from sitting on a freeway for long periods of time (thanks a lot LA traffic). If I use conventional makeup and skincare products or consume excessive fried foods and alcohol, these bumps tend to flair up.
The following routine has really helped to minimize congestion and lighten my acne marks.
CLEANSE (TREATS CONGESTION)
Each night, I remove my makeup with the 100 Percent Pure Blood Orange Cleansing Balm by splashing my face with warm water, rubbing a pea size amount all over my skin and eyes, then removing all the product with a damp wash cloth. No harsh makeup removers are needed, this all-natural cleanser uses a mix of coconut, avocado, olive and blood orange essential oil to remove all makeup without drying out my skin.
MASK (TREATS CONGESTION, BRIGHTENS, ANTI-AGING)
I find that if I don’t include using a mask with my nighttime skincare routine, I will completely forget to use them! Most nights I try to throw on a mask, even if I only leave it on for the time it takes to brush and floss my teeth.
Excess oil and bacteria can get trapped in dead skin when it’s not properly exfoliated, so I reach for the Elemental Herbology Facial Glow Radiance Peel to gently exfoliate my skin using papaya extract.
In order to lighten my acne scars, I use the Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel once a week to reduces the appearance of dark spots & discoloration with alpha hydroxy organic fruit acids and glycolic acids.
I also use the Kat Burki Hibiscus Antioxidant Mask about once a week in order to prevent fine lines and wrinkle. It uses essential oils to boost firmness and elasticity.
TONER (TREATS CONGESTION)
I didn’t use a toner for the longest time, but found a huge difference in clearer and brighter skin once I gave the Pixi Glow Tonic a try – and now I’m hooked! It uses aloe vera, ginseng and botanical extracts to nourish and treat my skin.
I swear by using a Vitamin C serum to brighten my skin, and right now I’m using the Juice Beauty Green Apple Emulsion. Along with Vitamin C and CoQ10, it uses the malic acid found in organic green apples to reduce the appearance of dark spots and discoloration.
I’m plagued by dark under-eye circles, so I always use a brightening eye cream. The Juice Beauty Green Apple Brightening Eye Cream uses a blend of CoQ10 and black tea to reduce the appearance of dark circles.
MOISTURIZER (TREATS CONGESTION)
The Cannuka CBD Healing Skin Balm is an absolute miracle worker when it comes to treating congestion on my skin. I lather it all over my face before bedtime and it has decreased congestion on my skin dramatically overnight. It uses a mixture of inflammatory CBD to decrease the size of my red bumps, and the anti-bacterial properties of Manuka honey to clear the skin.
