Losing your virginity to quality skincare products is like trying good wine for the first time. Sure, Two Buck Chuck is just fine until you taste a velvety glass of Napa Merlot. Just as a drugstore cleanser and moisturizer is just fine until you get your first 5-star facial. Once you know what you’ve been missing, you can never go back.
I’ll be the first to admit that I was a a big fan of drugstore brands, like CeraVe and Neutrogena, in my early twenties (shudder). I thought they did the trick until a Beverly Hills esthetician I visited took one look at my skin and explained that my occasional breakouts and dull complexion were due to the fact that I was holding onto a lot of dead skin – EW! I also learned that the chemicals and preservatives (parabens and sulfates, mainly) are known to cause skin irritation (a.k.a. redness and breakouts), disrupt your hormones, and damage the Earth’s ecosystem. No. Thank. You.
It was then that I knew that I needed to step up my game to quality skincare, and quality to me means that it’s effective, safe for my health, and safe for the environment. All that generally comes with a higher price tag, so I’m so glad that more affordable natural skincare lines have been becoming available, like Fleur & Bee!
Fleur & Bee launched in April with a line of paraben-free, sulfate-free, vegan, and cruelty-free skincare. Each part of their line of skincare essentials is packed with the most effective and natural ingredients, and comes with a price tag under $35. They were kind enough to send me some samples, so here’s what I thought after trying them for a couple of months.
This Vitamin C serum has been the most effective product for brightening my skin. It naturally promotes cell turnover, which essentially means it gets rid of dead skin in order to make way for new skin, thus diminishing acne marks and fine lines.
I like that the Fleur & Bee’s version also includes Vitamin E and Aloe Vera, two other powerful brightening and anti-aging ingredients that I’ve been wanting to incorporate more into my skin routine. My complexion has been brighter than ever since using the Fleur & Bee Nectar of The C Vitamin C Serum, so I would say if you want to try any one product, start with this one.
Using a highly effective night cream is another essential way I avoid dead skin build-up and achieve a youthful glow. I like to think of it like a raisin; grapes are plump and smooth when they’re full of water but start to wrinkle as they dry out. So not what you want your skin to do.
My skin runs more towards the oily side, so I like that the Fleur & Bee Crème de la Cream Hydrating Face Cream is rich enough to moisturize really well overnight, but not so much that it clogs my pores. It also includes Vitamin C and Aloe Vera (which I can’t get enough of), plus Vitamin B3, a naturally occurring complex that helps your skin retain its moisture. I lather it on every night and wake up to soft and hydrated skin, every time.
The third sample I’ve been using is the Fleur & Bee Eyes Eye Baby Anti-Aging Eye Cream. Just as with the rest of your skin, moisturizing is the key to avoiding wrinkles under your eyes, so I enjoy the richness of the Fleur & Bee Eyes Eye Baby Anti-Aging Eye Cream, this time combing aloe vera with sunflower seed oil. It also contains a long list of naturally-derived vitamins that reduce the look of dark circles and wrinkles. I see this product more as an important preventive measure, as I’m lucky enough to not have many fine lines now, but I know that they’re not far off in the horizon.
