Ecofashion isn’t just about buying from “sustainable” brands, it’s also knowing when to invest in quality pieces. I consider a 100% silk cami top to be a wardrobe essential for any woman. It can be worn throughout the year, layered under blouses and sweaters, and is so amazingly comfortable that you will find yourself gravitating towards it over and over.

Many fast fashion brands have similar items made from polyester satin, a synthetic fabric made from plastic that looks similar to silk but is much lower in quality and not environmentally friendly. Stores like Forever 21, H&M and Zara seem to make everything out of the stuff. Polyester satin has a slippery feel and feels much rougher than silk. It’s also non-biodegradable, releases a high amount of nitrus oxide during production and requires a high amount of water and energy to make. On the other hand, silk is a natural fabric, considered a highly renewable resource, and doesn’t require pesticides to produce.

With the higher level of quality comes a higher price tag, but it will be better for the planet and your closet.

Love these pictures. The lighting is perfect. I was going to recommend http://www.theethicalsilkcompany.com but the pattern of their camisole isn’t as… clean.

Thank you and great recommendation! I love that the silk worm isn’t harmed during production. Will definitely keep them in mind for future silk purchases. 🙂
